Edward A. Rucker and Mark E. Overland, authors of California Criminal Practice, Motions, Jury Instructions and Sentencing, have been recognized by the Criminal Justice Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association for their exceptional dedication and contributions to the practice of criminal law. Their award will be presented on May 9.
Gary Muldoon, author of Handling A Criminal Case in New York and coauthor of Criminal Law in New York, 4th, recently wrote an article for the Buffalo Law Review, entitled "Understanding New York's 'Mode of Proceedings' Muddle."
William F. Patry, author of Patry on Copyright and Patry on Fair Use, was cited repeatedly in Golan v. Holder, an important U.S. Supreme Court opinion on copyright law and the Constitution that was handed down in January. Among the many citations was one to Mr. Patry's eight-volume treatise, Patry on Copyright.
Merrick T. (Rick) Rossein, author of Employment Discrimination Law and Litigation and Employment Law Deskbook for Human Resources Professionals, was selected as the Independent EEO Consultant in United States and the Vulcan Society, Inc. et al. v. City of New York. U.S. District Court Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis mandated the appointment of an Independent Consultant. The task of the Independent Consultant is wide ranging and includes, among other things, submitting a final report that identifies all EEO compliance activity of the New York City Fire Department, evaluates its effectiveness, and identifies all the tasks the FDNY's EEO Office should be performing under the City's EEO Policy and in light of the violations identified by the court.
Dennis J. Wall, author of Litigation and Prevention of Insurer Bad Faith, 3d and co-author of CAT Claims: Insurance Coverage for Natural and Man-Made Disasters, has been appointed to a two-year term as cochair of the American Bar Association Subcommittee on Health, Life and Disability Insurance.
