FindLaw Announces Voting Rights Resource in Partnership with JustVote.org

Dedicated Resource Provides Essential Voter Information on State-by-State Employee Time Off to Vote Laws
EAGAN, Minn., Oct. 22, 2008 FindLaw, the world's leading provider of online legal information and Internet marketing solutions for law firms, has announced a partnership with JustVote.org, a non-partisan, non-profit affiliate of JustThink.org to help voters to know their rights, for its Voting Rights Law section of FindLaw's Special Edition: Election 2008.
"Most voters are likely not aware that they may be entitled to time off during their working day to vote on Election Day 2008. States including California, New York and Minnesota have passed laws mandating that all employees are given time off during the work day to vote. This time off may be limited to situations where the employee does not have adequate time to vote before or after work, and may be paid or unpaid depending on State legislation. Other states like Connecticut, Florida, Pennsylvania and Oregon do not make this provision. Knowing your rights when it comes to time off to vote can make the difference to people who want to make it out to the polling booths to exercise their right to vote, but have a busy schedule that may preclude them from leaving work," said said Stephanie Rahlfs, attorney and FindLaw social media manager.
The webpage offers "State-by-State Time Off to Vote Laws" content with downloadable PDF charts provided by FindLaw.com and JustVote.org. This up-to-date information explains voters' rights to time off on Election Day across all 50 states in addition to easily conveying which states require that employers pay for time off to vote. An important tool for American voters looking for information on their legal voting rights as employees, the format is accessible and easy to understand, with imperative information on what voters need to know to make it to the polls on November 4. Additional sections include State-by-State Absentee and Early Voting Laws, State-by-State Voter Registration Information, State-by-state Voter ID Laws, and State-by-State Voting Systems Information, provided by the Pew Center on the States and Voting Information Center at Reed College.
JustVote.org is non-partisan citizen initiative that provides a fast and easy way online to register to vote, engage voters to vote and empower them to encourage others. For new, minority and under-served voters, registering to vote is the most critical step toward voting on Election Day. Justvote.org's painless Voter Registration process is increasing our nation's voter base, providing a path to the polls and empowering voters to help others do the same - the result helps to ensure our strong democracy.
FindLaw legal experts, including Richard L. Hasen, FindLaw contributing writer, Loyola Law School professor, and author of the Election Law Blog, are available to speak about the website content and how important it is for voters in the upcoming election.
