Thomson Reuters Engage™ Launched

First Comprehensive Engagement Planning & Management (EPM) software tool allowing law firms to successfully plan and manage matters using alternative fee arrangements
Eagan, MN, May 11, 2010 – Thomson Reuters, the world's leading source of intelligent information for businesses and professionals, has introduced Thomson Reuters Engage, the first comprehensive Engagement Planning & Management (EPM) software tool that enables law firms to create, monitor and manage integrated budgets and work plans for matters and portfolios of matters. Thomson Reuters Engage is designed to meet law firm clients' demands for transparent, predictable costs.
The landscape of the legal market is rapidly shifting. Firms are under increasing pressure to deliver more value to their clients in a cost-effective manner, and with plans and budgets that are consistent and predictable. Thomson Reuters Engage's intuitive design and seamless integration with law firms' existing management information systems – including time & billing, human resources, email and customer relationship management – allows attorneys to confidently manage within the evolving demands of today's clients, including alternative fee arrangements.
Thomson Reuters Engage leverages firm experience to enable lawyers to build detailed plans and precise budgets. As lawyers lay out the engagement requirements and their approach, Engage seamlessly creates comprehensive matter project plans and budgets. Firms adjust timekeeper and staff assignments, timelines and budgets to optimize plans within a client's specified guidelines and objectives. Engage provides continual monitoring, allowing firms to track how the engagement is performing against plan.
Engage was developed by Hildebrandt Baker Robbins consultants, leveraging the firm's deep expertise and experience with lawyer working requirements and processes, and the many law firm operations that support lawyers. Hildebrandt Baker Robbins, leading consultants to the legal industry, is part of Thomson Reuters.
"The legal market is increasingly becoming a buyers' market in which clients are demanding greater efficiency and cost-effectiveness in the delivery of legal services," said Brad W. Robbins, co-managing director of Hildebrandt Baker Robbins. "Firms need advanced tools to help them successfully manage in this new market environment. Thomson Reuters Engage enables firms to plan for engagements; respond to RFPs; and initiate, monitor and execute engagements with the confidence that they are delivering the utmost value to the client, while maximizing allocation of firm resources, efficiency and work output, and maintaining firm profitability."
Thomson Reuters Engage is being released in May to a small group of lighthouse customers, including Covington & Burling LLP, Haynes and Boone LLP, and Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP for early use and refinement and will be commercially available later in 2010.
"We are looking at Thomson Reuters Engage because until now, firms have lacked sophisticated tools to develop, track and manage alternative fee arrangements, even as those arrangements are becoming increasingly commonplace," said Jeff Rovner, managing director for information at O'Melveny & Myers LLP. "Thomson Reuters Engage, for the first time, enables a firm to develop an alternative fee budget by mining the firm's own experience, rather than relying on untested assumptions or guesswork. It then provides effective tools to track the progress of the matter against the budget, overall and by phases, and to manage all of the firm's alternative fee arrangements collectively."
