Miller's Standard Insurance Policies Annotated is Available Exclusively from Thomson Reuters

Eagan, Minn., July 15, 2010 – Thomson Reuters is strengthening and deepening its legal resources relating to insurance coverage by providing Miller's Standard Insurance Policies Annotated exclusively in print and on Westlaw®. Through the recent acquisition of Connecticut-based Legal Research Systems, Inc., Thomson Reuters acquired the rights to Miller's Standard Insurance Policies Annotated, a trusted source of insurance coverage case law for more than 20 years. Under the terms of the acquisition agreement, Legal Research Systems founder Susan Miller will join Thomson Reuters, Legal as principal attorney editor for this product.
"This is an excellent addition to our insurance case law library," said John Elstad, senior vice president, Legal Editorial Operations. "In offering Miller's Standard Insurance Policies Annotated on Westlaw, we have created a powerful new resource for insurance litigators, as well as insurance carriers, to assist in evaluating the performance of their insurance policy language."
"Miller's Standard Insurance Policies Annotated includes complete copies of all the property/casualty policies and endorsements most commonly litigated today," said Susan Miller. "Each policy is fully annotated, section by section, with more than 30 years of state and federal court opinions. Miller's annotations are conveniently linked directly to each policy provision, sometimes even to a single word of a policy, to enable attorneys, underwriters or anyone else with a coverage question to quickly find an authoritative legal interpretation of what is often arcane and esoteric policy language."
In addition, Miller's provides:
  • 93 standard property and casualty insurance policies, and more than 800 related endorsements.
  • Links from the policy language to case summaries for all reported U.S. state and federal appellate cases since 1978 that have interpreted these policies – currently more than 150,000.
  • Case law summaries that include key facts of the case and the case's interpretation of policy language, further classified by jurisdiction, date, prevailing party and whether the actual contested policy language differed from the standard.
  • An editorial index that classifies these cases by thousands of phrases and topics, to identify commonality between policies, and find case law on subjects not explicitly addressed in the policy.
  • Links within cases to the complete West National Reporter System®, including value-added features such as KeyCite®.
Miller's Standard Insurance Policies Annotated is available from Thomson Reuters, Legal exclusively in print and on Westlaw. For additional information, go to http://bit.ly/millers and hear Susan Miller as she discusses topics in the insurance industry.
