How to Retrieve the Applicable Federal Rate

Each month, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) issues a revenue ruling that announces the various prescribed interest rates for federal income tax purposes. These are sometimes referred to as the applicable federal rates. The IRS issues the applicable federal rates for each month during the preceding month. For example, the February applicable federal rates are issued during January.

  1. Access the Federal Taxation–Revenue Rulings database (FTX-RR). Coverage begins with 1954.
  2. Select the Natural Language search method.
  3. Type a description like the following:
    what are the applicable federal rates for february 2007
