WESTCLIP®: HOW TO RETRIEVE DOCUMENTS WHILE YOU SLEEP

Q: What's easier than searching for cases, administrative decisions, news articles, or other documents on Westlaw?

A: Letting Westlaw do the searching for you.

That's where WestClip comes in. WestClip is the clipping service on Westlaw that automatically runs Terms and Connectors searches for you in the databases you choose. You designate how often the searches run (e.g., daily), which portions of documents you want to retrieve (e.g., the full text or a citations list), and how relevant documents are delivered (e.g., by e-mail).

WestClip takes it from there.

How to Access WestClip

You can access WestClip in either of two ways:

  • Click Alert Center at the top of any page. At the Alert Center Directory page, click Create in the WestClip section.
  • While viewing the result list for a Terms and Connectors search, click Add Search to WestClip. Or, while viewing a document, choose Add Search to WestClip from the Result Options drop-down list on the Result List tab and click Go.

How to Create a WestClip Entry

After you access WestClip, the WestClip: Create Entry page is displayed. At the WestClip: Create Entry page, complete these steps:

  1. Name your WestClip entry (optional).
  2. Specify one or more databases you want searched. (If you are creating an entry from your current Terms and Connectors query, your current database and query are already entered for you.)
  3. Type a Terms and Connectors query.
  4. Review the delivery settings. If you want to change the settings (e.g., delivery destination), click Edit next to Delivery Settings. The WestClip: Edit Delivery Settings page is displayed. When you are finished making changes, click Save to save the delivery settings and return to the WestClip: Create Entry page.
  5. Save your WestClip entry. Click Save at the WestClip: Create Entry page.
