New York State Register: Don't let New York regulatory changes catch you unaware

If your firm practices in New York in a heavily regulated field, e.g., environmental, banking, public utilities, or insurance law, you need easy access to all applicable state regulations—existing and proposed. That includes the official register of New York rulemaking activity, the New York State Register, which contains material such as the following:
  • proposed rules and rule changes for more than 100 state agencies
  • state notices of securities offerings
  • notices to bidders and contractors
  • notices of public hearings
  • executive orders from the governor
  • notices of the availability of funds
  • regulatory agendas (the subject matter currently being considered for rulemaking, as well as agency contact information)
As of July 2007, the New York State Register can be searched on Westlaw in the New York State Register database (NY-ADR). Coverage begins with January 1, 2007, and the database is updated weekly. You can search NY-ADR using the Terms and Connectors or Natural Language search method. You can also use the Table of Contents service (a feature unavailable in other state administrative register databases) to quickly browse headings and retrieve documents by title.
If an important client is particularly affected by state administrative rules, consider using WestClip® to automatically search for documents containing the industry, company, or agency name.
E-mail feature: NY-ADR also contains an unusual time-saving feature: a live e-mail link is provided in selected documents for easy communication with the appropriate agency. To see an example, view the January 17, 2007, Division of Human Rights notice of proposed rulemaking related to General Regulations; Election of Arbitration.
