The Tabbed Tobacco Litigation page: The battle lines are drawn

In 2006, the Florida Supreme Court threw out the $145 billion jury award in a class action lawsuit against cigarette companies, holding that the 500,000 class members must sue individually. In February 2009, the first of about 8,000 subsequent tobacco lawsuits in Florida resulted in an $8 million verdict.

One down, 8,000 to go. (And that's just Florida.)

If your organization or clients are affected by tobacco litigation, we've made life a little simpler: The tabbed Tobacco Litigation page was released on Westlaw last month. Among the highlights:

  • links to videotaped testimony and court documents from the Hess case (what the Miami Herald says is "expected to serve as a template" in regional litigation)
  • easy access to tobacco-related court transcripts and filings
  • easy access to tobacco-related primary sources, analytical materials, and news
  • links to analysis from Andrews Tobacco Industry Litigation Reporter
