Federal judgment records—now on Westlaw!
Q: My client says there is a federal judgment against him. I want to learn the details, but I'm only aware of the state judgment databases on Westlaw. Does Westlaw contain any federal judgment records?
A: The Federal Judgments database (FJ-ALL), recently released on Westlaw, contains information from civil and criminal judgments filed in U.S. district courts, beginning with January 2000. Newly filed dockets are added daily.
Among the more useful features of FJ-ALL are the following:
- A user-friendly template allows you to search by party name and type, docket number, Nature of Suit (NOS) code, date or date range, and judgment amount.
- Records of judgments of dismissal are available.
- Links to PDF images of original court documents are displayed, where available.
- If you use the Terms and Connectors search method, you can restrict your search to fields such as judge name, filing location, Key Nature of Suit, and cause.
